UNDERSTANDING THE CONDITION

What are Enlarged Pores?

Pores are the small openings in the skin through which oil and sweat reach the surface. They appear enlarged when excess sebum stretches the follicle walls, when dead skin cells accumulate around the opening, or when the skin loses its natural elasticity with age.

Sun damage and collagen depletion also contribute to the appearance of larger pores over time. Genetics play a role too: oilier skin types are naturally predisposed to more visible pores, particularly across the nose, chin and forehead.

Why do pores appear enlarged?

Pore size is largely genetic but worsened by excess oil, congestion, UV damage and collagen loss. As the skin loses firmness, follicle walls relax and openings appear larger. Treatment requires addressing oil regulation, congestion and structural skin support simultaneously.

1

Excess Sebum

Oily skin types produce more sebum, stretching follicle walls and making pores more visible

2

Congestion

Dead skin cells and sebum accumulating around the follicle opening make pores appear larger

3

UV Damage

Sun exposure degrades collagen in follicle walls, reducing firmness and allowing pores to stretch

4

Loss of Elasticity

As collagen and elastin decline with age, structural support around each follicle weakens

Pores cannot be permanently closed as they are functional skin structures. However, they can be significantly minimised and kept less visible with the right ongoing treatment and skincare.
