Cosmelan goes far beyond a standard skin peel. The Cosmelan formula contains an exclusive combination of active ingredients with proven efficacy, acting at every stage of the hyperpigmentation process to completely eliminate existing pigmentation while preventing future spots from forming.
Cosmelan works at two levels. At the first level, it inhibits tyrosinase activation within the melanosome, reducing oxidative stress and melanin synthesis. At the second level, copper chelators reduce tyrosinase function. Cosmelan also blocks the transfer of melanosomes to keratinocytes, preventing pigment from reaching the skin's surface.
Cosmelan is suitable for melasma, sun spots, sun damage, acne scarring, age spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), skin discolouration on the chest, neck, and back, blemishes, uneven skin tone, and discolouration from previous laser treatments including Fraxel, GentleYag, Erbium, CO2, IPL, and Picosure.
Cosmelan is an in-clinic treatment that includes the preparation and application of the treatment mask. You can return home following the in-clinic application and undergo the prescribed time period with the mask in place.
The most significant changes occur in the first few weeks, when surface melanin is cleared and the skin appears smoother, softer, and more even. However, the melanocyte cells responsible for overproduction are still active at this stage. Controlling this overproduction requires ongoing home-care treatment with a regulating home regime to prevent pigmentation from reappearing.
The side effects of Cosmelan are mostly redness and flaking, with occasional mild soreness for the first 1 to 2 days following the peel. The degree of reaction depends on how long the mask is left on and varies from person to person.
Comprehensive aftercare instructions are provided, beginning from the moment you leave the clinic, continuing through 48 hours post-treatment, and extending to 1 to 7 months post-procedure.
Phase 1
Skin is stabilised through calming inflammation and barrier function repair. Some technologies and methods include the Lutronic DermaV, the SDL Glass Skin Method, and controlled chemical support.
Phase 2
Targeted device-based treatments are clinically introduced, spaced and layered. Technologies such as the PicoSure Pro may be used for laser toning, pigment management, resurfacing, and texture improvement.
Phase 3
The focus shifts to refining skin tone, pore quality, and smoothness. This phase may involve the Lutronic LaseMD Ultra alongside SDL's depigmentation protocols.
Phase 4
Structured skin maintenance is designed to help sustain results and support skin long-term. This may include regenerative treatments, periodic laser toning, and hydrating chemical support.
