UNDERSTANDING THE CONDITION

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition characterised by persistent facial redness, flushing, visible blood vessels (telangiectasia) and in some cases acne-like breakouts (papulopustular rosacea) or skin thickening around the nose (rhinophyma).

Rosacea is not curable, but it is highly manageable. Many of our clients experience dramatic reductions in redness, flushing episodes and the frequency of flare-ups with a properly structured treatment pathway and maintenance program.

ETR: Persistent Redness and Flushing
Papulopustular Rosacea: Redness with Breakouts
Phymatous Rosacea: Skin Thickening
Ocular Rosacea: Eye Involvement

what causes rosacea?

The exact cause of rosacea is not fully understood, but it involves a combination of vascular dysregulation, immune system abnormalities and environmental triggers. The condition tends to run in families and is more common in fair-skinned individuals.

1

Vascular Dysregulation

Abnormal dilation and reactivity of blood vessels in the face drives the flushing and persistent redness of rosacea

2

Trigger Sensitivity

Heat, spicy food, alcohol, exercise, stress and certain skincare products all trigger rosacea flares

3

Genetic Predisposition

Rosacea has a clear genetic component and is more prevalent in people of Northern European descent

4

Demodex Mites

Higher populations of Demodex skin mites are found in rosacea-affected skin and may contribute to inflammation
